FLUENT ENGLISH

Let's enjoy English!

13th Jan 2014 ~ Where am I going? ~

13th Jan 2014 chicken

Recently I have been “running around like a chicken with its head cut off!” DO YOU KNOW THIS ONE?

There are two versions:

like a headless chicken (UK)

&

like a chicken with its head cut off (USA)

Both are used (no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ version) to express how very busy you are doing many things, and it seems like you are going round and round ... !

My reason is that I am heading out of town (and country) for a few days, so have been running around like a chicken with its head cutoff trying to organise everything ~ I’m almost there ;-)

So you won’t see me/my words/pictures for a little while but they’ll be a whole bunch to look forward to when I get back from ***** <<--- where I am going?????

Byeeeeee ~

12th Jan 2014 ~ Where am I? ~

11th Jan 2014

I have been running-around-town these last few days, as my already busy schedule suddenly quadrupled (X4) with important things to do. In the midst of that, from the picture can you guess where I was in Tokyo?

Sadly it was for work and not pleasure, however I always enjoy being in that part of town. Do you have any favourite spots in your town that you’d like to tell me about? It is always nice when you have a ‘place to go to’ when you want a break from the busy life ~ whether that is a cafe or park or beach or perhaps go for a ride or drive somewhere to ‘clear the air’.

Anyway, I hope you had a lovely day today and do enjoy an extra day off tomorrow, if you have a day off ~

8th Jan 2014 ~ Yes, I can! ~

8th Jan 2014

More often than not, people say; “No, I can’t speak English” ===> HELLO, YOU TOLD ME THAT IN PERFECT ENGLISH!!

Congratulate yourself, encourage yourself, pat yourself on the back, as you CAN speak English and read English (you’re reading this now, right!?!). By telling yourself these phrases every once in a while, will REALLY help - look in the mirror and say to yourself;

* Yes, I can speak English!

* Yes, I can read English!

* Yes, I can understand English!

That will definitely give you a whole bunch more confidence to go out there and USE ENGLISH ~ speaking it everyday in as many situations as you can (big and small), will make your overall ability SO MUCH BETTER!

YES, I CAN!!

7th Jan 2014 ~ EXAGGERATE MORE! ~

7th Jan 2014

Following on from yesterday ~ “exaggerating” is one of the best ways for advertising; to get across a point or special idea or uniqueness of a product (as with the ‘Mints’ in the photo).

The same goes for your conversation style ~ making a point, stressing emphasis, exaggerating words or phrases makes things interesting and fun and easy to understand. Plus, this way of talking/expressing yourself will show how fluent and natural you sound to everyone you talk to.

Do try ‘exaggerating’ things a little in your conversations and they will sound SO MUCH BETTER!

6th Jan 2014 ~ EXAGGERATE! ~

6th Jan 2014

It’s interesting, as this came up this morning when I was talking with someone ~ he asked:

“How can I be more fluent?”
I asked this -> “Do you mean to sound more ‘natural’?”
“Yes.”
“OK, then ‘exaggerate’ the way you talk.”
“Exagger... what?”
“Let me explain ~ ”

Yesterday I mentioned about making your studying/practising ‘fun’ ~ remember? (Make It Fun!) Well, this goes a little beyond that by showing more expression and realism in your conversation -> it is very easy and makes a HUGE difference...

Here is an example using the same words but in the second one you need to stress and ‘exaggerate’ the word more, as THAT makes a big, big difference in the way it sounds. Read on...

1) The coffee tastes really good.
2) The coffee tastes REALLY good!

Same words but by ‘exaggerating’ the “REALLY”, it makes everything sound so much more special and “alive”!
Try ‘exaggerating’ things a little in your conversations and they will sound SO MUCH BETTER!

Let’s talk more about this another time, as it makes such a big difference ...

5th Jan 2014 ~ MAKE IT FUN ;-)

5th Jan 2014

Today this came up again and again, so I thought it vital to share it with you ~

People often say that I want to/need to “study” English. That however, is something you usually do at school or university in a classroom. If you are reading this, it is probably more related to “practise” rather than ‘study’.

Making things fun/interesting changes everything and it turns into an enjoyable experience. Use your hobbies as your base to practise; if you enjoy baseball, then look at a baseball site/watch a baseball movie/read a baseball magazine ~ all are ways to practise but make everything more enjoyable for you.

That goes for music, cooking, sports, photography, travelling, etc. etc. etc. --> use your hobbies to help practise your English and you will enjoy the way in which you improve in your language abilities.

HAVE FUN ... !

3rd Jan 2014 ~ Peaceful Start ~

3rd Jan 2014

Here’s wishing you a ‘Peaceful Start’ to another wonderful day.

How have you started your 2014? Have you made any changes to improve yourself; your thoughts, your looks, your fitness, your finances, your mind, your positiveness ~ I could go on forever as you can see ~ the reason is, because I have made several changes for myself that I want to share, as they will hopefully be an influence to aid you, too...

The biggest ones are organising my time and actions to improve myself, so I can help others;

* I wake up an hour earlier and exercise every morning.
* I make a good breakfast.
* I meditate for 20 minutes.
* I make a brief visit to a local Shrine.

THAT STARTS MY DAY

What are you doing to help you ... ??

2nd Jan 2014 ~ HELLOS ~

2nd Jan 2014 1

I paid my “hellos” and “requests” and “prayers” for everyone’s health and happiness and prosperity again today at another Shrine (a local one).

After giving-back last year’s pendants/good luck charms, I proceeded to buy new ones for Health and Safety in 2014 - both very important don’t you think?!? What did you get?

And I got my OMIKUJI, of course --> it was very good actually :-)

Hope you had a great day ~

1st Jan 2014 ~ WELCOME ~

1st Jan14 yes 8

Welcome to a new year, a new Blog, a new you, a new me and a new next stage of your life ...

Yes, I know that sounds like a LOT, and it actually is! The simple thing to decide is “How much of a ‘new me’ do I really want?”

I have used it before and will use it again (and again), as it is so very true;

If nothing changes, NOTHING CHANGES!

The same ideas and dedication you had in 2012 didn’t work in 2013, and the same thing here ~> if you want more, if you want better, if you want to be greater, YOU HAVE TO DO GREATER!!

I went to one Shrine at 00:00 last night with friends, slept for 4 hours, visited another one today, went to the office, did some shopping, did some washing, cooked dinner, just did an hour of exercise, ate dinner, calls to England and now writing this for you ~> in order for you to practise your English and build motivation and inner strength ~ ~>> ‘give forward’ ~ helping you also helps improve me, too ;-)

2014 started with THE MOST JOYOUS OF NEWS for me ~ this year IS and WILL BE a fantastic year.

So WELCOME to the new me and please WELCOME THE NEW YOU, as well.
